I saw a picture of knights/guards made from egg boxes on <a href="http://craftypod.com/">craftypod.com</a> and really wanted to have a go with Harvey hence the tentative link to a book. Next time though, I would like to make the guards from The Wizard of Oz... "OEO!"...<br />

<b>Activity: </b>Egg Box Guards<br />
<br />
<b>Resources:</b> An egg box (large), acrylic paint, flower and heart paper punch (but just a hole punch would do), black fine liner pen, scissors, glue or a glue gun.<br />
<br />
<b>What to do: </b><br />
<br />
<b>1) </b>Cut up an egg box so that you have four 'cups'. Two can be smaller than the other two.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGY46UGV4-2TVCGz799amvw9fYRyJkQie7_aBsZcudBiLH9FaUVg7lUm4U6qpQFNgO2oJgfkF2v1J7gsIdi-anM4dOrWPb7zRsJpIFSBRCa59sA7fIQQA8OB-2YVVyhGwbjFGpDvirex8/s1600/IMG_2835.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTUdRMRYmXuHywCX2-pWccJ8lkOep47cIxEiYcoqSeKKjZzcZZ8E1dxphTZ3qieg8WUpkvIpHpTjsxXNSFP0pyWltZSG_45s6_P5Ug_WMq9aUCcLGMPWPEDuVhyphenhyphen1saAozcnefxPm0YqTo/s1600/IMG_2829.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTUdRMRYmXuHywCX2-pWccJ8lkOep47cIxEiYcoqSeKKjZzcZZ8E1dxphTZ3qieg8WUpkvIpHpTjsxXNSFP0pyWltZSG_45s6_P5Ug_WMq9aUCcLGMPWPEDuVhyphenhyphen1saAozcnefxPm0YqTo/s320/IMG_2829.jpg" width="239" /></a><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>2) </b>Cut two of the smaller cups into a helmet shape and then put them all together to make the guard shape.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRTBstKPQ9-ID25nDIahtAFQmwyAzKXuO4844AgqtD_Vuw8xdok5A7TtDx4RqTfVJBrODKMgbH3ONFIYrRmahVNaK7n8qR8IoYWXbxwEG5pBa7JlfIMmpk-xgE2K-GUyqX-yD_Bfk15f8/s1600/IMG_2832.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRTBstKPQ9-ID25nDIahtAFQmwyAzKXuO4844AgqtD_Vuw8xdok5A7TtDx4RqTfVJBrODKMgbH3ONFIYrRmahVNaK7n8qR8IoYWXbxwEG5pBa7JlfIMmpk-xgE2K-GUyqX-yD_Bfk15f8/s320/IMG_2832.jpg" width="239" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>3) </b>Paint the parts separately and wait for them to dry. (Sliver paint looks cool for the helmet and the armor)<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGY46UGV4-2TVCGz799amvw9fYRyJkQie7_aBsZcudBiLH9FaUVg7lUm4U6qpQFNgO2oJgfkF2v1J7gsIdi-anM4dOrWPb7zRsJpIFSBRCa59sA7fIQQA8OB-2YVVyhGwbjFGpDvirex8/s1600/IMG_2835.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGY46UGV4-2TVCGz799amvw9fYRyJkQie7_aBsZcudBiLH9FaUVg7lUm4U6qpQFNgO2oJgfkF2v1J7gsIdi-anM4dOrWPb7zRsJpIFSBRCa59sA7fIQQA8OB-2YVVyhGwbjFGpDvirex8/s320/IMG_2835.jpg" width="239" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>4)</b> Once dry, use a hole punch or craft punches to make shapes in the helmets and armor.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>5)</b> Use a glue gun or PVA to stick the shapes together and then add eyes using the paper from the hole punch and a smile with a pen.<br />
<br />

<b><br /></b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b>Hi everyone! It's great to be creating stuff again after a long holiday back to the UK! Here is an activity that you can adapt for any book...</b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b>Activity:</b> Little Red Riding Hood matchbox characters<br />
<br />
<b>Resources: </b>2 boxes empty boxes of safety matches, 4 matches (struck and blown out, get an adult to do this), colourful paper for the background, paper for the characters, scissors, paint (I used watercolour), blue tac, glue, black fine liner pen.<br />
<br />
<br />
* Like many of my activities, this one is for younger kids with adult support and for older kids with no support (apart from striking the matches and blowing them out.)<br />
<br />
<b>What to do: </b><br />
<b>1)</b> Choose a background paper and draw around a matchbox onto it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYzjxHW3DU_jNOsTurTjCR_e65SK0NRg0GrAk5RgtGtHBhPZdavIeMKMvHrcFz-y_7g8PMbSsBys6doPai4L_4qMr-YdurZtT5enhjl3u_BLA_8Nd2jn4eNllUkysZ2LgCNjHB_1ObrLE/s1600/IMG_2572.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYzjxHW3DU_jNOsTurTjCR_e65SK0NRg0GrAk5RgtGtHBhPZdavIeMKMvHrcFz-y_7g8PMbSsBys6doPai4L_4qMr-YdurZtT5enhjl3u_BLA_8Nd2jn4eNllUkysZ2LgCNjHB_1ObrLE/s320/IMG_2572.jpg" width="239" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4Gft3cnyTcCtNpDqXnpAvMWEpxgPfc7zRLVYcpgW8bEJwyGdIqPiuuyWZsbRj29gYmMReEipxnqq4vg8NIjQdnYAsWcnv8DsgoABsHa20BmGxEU-qOQZYISm72-JW2ZsxoSwQYMCpZEA/s1600/IMG_2574.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4Gft3cnyTcCtNpDqXnpAvMWEpxgPfc7zRLVYcpgW8bEJwyGdIqPiuuyWZsbRj29gYmMReEipxnqq4vg8NIjQdnYAsWcnv8DsgoABsHa20BmGxEU-qOQZYISm72-JW2ZsxoSwQYMCpZEA/s320/IMG_2574.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>2) </b>Cut it out and stick it onto one face of your matchbox. Next draw around your match box again to make a box in which to draw your character.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbVjpll_CKzshS6ZN1qep-sFDIZckU4bpbI5hQHKTqXdHzigoJETth9yLNEhwnhqJxV0scLq4ulvs8Z4O6yiw97gLZ9JZLA1KRQUP12QYfKBZZ1B6uz0G3H-x1LONDMYWD0qUUENS9NN4/s1600/IMG_2578.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbVjpll_CKzshS6ZN1qep-sFDIZckU4bpbI5hQHKTqXdHzigoJETth9yLNEhwnhqJxV0scLq4ulvs8Z4O6yiw97gLZ9JZLA1KRQUP12QYfKBZZ1B6uz0G3H-x1LONDMYWD0qUUENS9NN4/s320/IMG_2578.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<b> 3) </b>Draw a character in the box. It doesn't matter if it overlaps a side or two, it's actually better if it does.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyjTfPq17fXPFL4KwhKpcb1vjLU1SHxqdyXj111c870y4QF-JU_AQ1-1p6r6ubyZ-ri4gQdKbr0E9BIJbCmIfbcwUG8QLdbWKTLUwYk3chZ-xMggzEuJPcj8JTnsS5gHwJz7bH1ukICAY/s1600/IMG_2580.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyjTfPq17fXPFL4KwhKpcb1vjLU1SHxqdyXj111c870y4QF-JU_AQ1-1p6r6ubyZ-ri4gQdKbr0E9BIJbCmIfbcwUG8QLdbWKTLUwYk3chZ-xMggzEuJPcj8JTnsS5gHwJz7bH1ukICAY/s320/IMG_2580.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<b> 4)</b> Paint your characters carefully.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjssFDzGWE0c1yr2PpSbXBrHH2V7xxjZ4vku4dmm0fEPTcWHTyPQdeMdtwaYviuyGwgKScGgX6BCl1nG-fgIikhaI18i_V3RUlUJf3mjKYLr7Q3xJ0ACXZ6Ea-uxjaW3klMWuypGHpnmvQ/s1600/IMG_2583.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjssFDzGWE0c1yr2PpSbXBrHH2V7xxjZ4vku4dmm0fEPTcWHTyPQdeMdtwaYviuyGwgKScGgX6BCl1nG-fgIikhaI18i_V3RUlUJf3mjKYLr7Q3xJ0ACXZ6Ea-uxjaW3klMWuypGHpnmvQ/s320/IMG_2583.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<b> 5) </b>Use blue tac to stick the matchstick legs into the box.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYpxYHWZdC8Co7qDQcRkQpRyMHmQ3Mzfu9bcRvvG-1D4FiaHJ_AG0fvCeAucHkl6aYCNjukv4Sd1EflSVOyAsM0SJQnak3Us_hwl3qecCEjV0obGkH3pHrXfbNFSQTbHBMvhEPqKviiEs/s1600/IMG_2588.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYpxYHWZdC8Co7qDQcRkQpRyMHmQ3Mzfu9bcRvvG-1D4FiaHJ_AG0fvCeAucHkl6aYCNjukv4Sd1EflSVOyAsM0SJQnak3Us_hwl3qecCEjV0obGkH3pHrXfbNFSQTbHBMvhEPqKviiEs/s320/IMG_2588.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>6) </b>When your character is dry, outline in with a black fine liner. Then cut it out and stick it on with the bottom slightly overlapping the bottom on the box. (I added a frilly skirt using another piece of paper). Now Put the matchbox together and...Voila!<br />

<b>Tip:</b> Have a go at making different characters from your favourite stories! You could even make a setting for your story from a shoe box, using the same technique.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17909011275036636325noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3939703384509379388.post-48989572094636887732012-04-29T19:02:00.002-07:002012-06-13T23:21:43.202-07:00The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I remember reading this book over and over when I was little! I loved the fact that Sophie couldn't have a bath because the tiger had drunk all the water in the taps.<br />
<br />
<b>Activity: </b>Make a tiger!<br />
<br />
<b>Resources: </b>black, orange, red and white A4 paper or card, scissors, glue, ruler, eraser.<br />
<br />
<b>What to do: </b><br />
<b>1) </b>Using a pencil and ruler divide paper into 1.5 cm strips.<br />

<b>2) </b>Do the same with the orange paper to make 4 strips, then fold the paper lengthways and cut out the strips. They should be 1.5 cm in width and half 10.5 cm long. Do this with the white paper too.<br />

<b>Activity: </b>Recycled Robots<br />
<br />
<b>What to do:</b><br />
<b>1)</b> Look through your recycling tub and choose boxes, tubes and tins. Ask an adult to make sure the tins have no sharp edges.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEW4nCLD-vc0snzzoDAYlVZJ1dLPq_OoZkBbPLmxW_s_GQIQueRP10Llf8Cj9YuvKWcVraM8i4ffeliB4SjcNLAKwg8hQOiBN2tWia3PUp4ALOfStj0hM7iSz3U506L_R-UmY3X84TKCI/s1600/IMG_2094.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEW4nCLD-vc0snzzoDAYlVZJ1dLPq_OoZkBbPLmxW_s_GQIQueRP10Llf8Cj9YuvKWcVraM8i4ffeliB4SjcNLAKwg8hQOiBN2tWia3PUp4ALOfStj0hM7iSz3U506L_R-UmY3X84TKCI/s200/IMG_2094.jpg" width="149" /></a><b>2)</b> For a nice effect paint your containers and tubes with Gesso (a surface primer for painting) and let them dry before you paint with undiluted poster or acrylic paint. This will stop the print from the packages showing through. If you have it, mix some gel medium in with your paint for a glossy finish. If not, you can paint a thin layer of PVA glue over your finished robot if you want to.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM2CBej6RzcxhXS0kSWqfSBJ-dSeh4DS-OscNDKQjx85PtlYbDDipb1Qo6MzbR0d5YzBWEDd8RgZWx74wIkmRntJ61UgVV5ghUPPQqgMXIRtPjkxEVpg12yuq8ET_N97szABtv_KftSco/s1600/IMG_2047.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiM2CBej6RzcxhXS0kSWqfSBJ-dSeh4DS-OscNDKQjx85PtlYbDDipb1Qo6MzbR0d5YzBWEDd8RgZWx74wIkmRntJ61UgVV5ghUPPQqgMXIRtPjkxEVpg12yuq8ET_N97szABtv_KftSco/s200/IMG_2047.jpg" width="149" /></a></div>
<b>3)</b> Paint all your robot components.<br />
<br />
<b>4)</b> Once they are all dry, use glue to stick them together to make your robot. If you have a glue gun, this works well but get an adult to help as the glue could burn your fingers.<br />
<br />
<b>5)</b> Use bits and bobs to decorate your robot. We used buttons and coloured matchsticks from the dollar shop.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnZH7Ytz5aNHVkrXQmWF7VzEI6uTo5z3Ai9oMYLsFspRws3hu7p-rlMHMFXiVDDGZ_fmJL92VHXH8a43kSNSvAfKZcc7aZAdC-wSXefXT1R7wkupNyiqJlc3fhx58j1v7NHWE_o1XAUe0/s1600/IMG_2113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnZH7Ytz5aNHVkrXQmWF7VzEI6uTo5z3Ai9oMYLsFspRws3hu7p-rlMHMFXiVDDGZ_fmJL92VHXH8a43kSNSvAfKZcc7aZAdC-wSXefXT1R7wkupNyiqJlc3fhx58j1v7NHWE_o1XAUe0/s320/IMG_2113.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>6)</b> For the small robots arms cut two different coloured strips of A4 paper (2 cm wide). Put the bottoms together to form a right angle. Glue them at the bottom. Then fold each piece over the top of the other until you have a concertina shape. Glue the ends. Make some pincers from aluminium foil and glue them on as hands and then glue onto the robot.<br />

<b>Activity:</b> Autumn Leaf Creatures</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>What to do:</b></div>
<div>
Harvey and I went for a leaf walk yesterday and made some leaf creatures with the lovely things we found.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUrZuCiELvAo-jYcoaDaql75pkPnz4hO0HhvtUXDVmsm9NqXb5xwBb4TCf8sGSIwKnqABJ2tgT92zgOFYIxf8417ZDxIm2YAAA2SSK9cs42O-lzhVY0bRyXRsw9Ceqlgt6Ti-b84smUrQ/s1600/IMG_2053.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUrZuCiELvAo-jYcoaDaql75pkPnz4hO0HhvtUXDVmsm9NqXb5xwBb4TCf8sGSIwKnqABJ2tgT92zgOFYIxf8417ZDxIm2YAAA2SSK9cs42O-lzhVY0bRyXRsw9Ceqlgt6Ti-b84smUrQ/s200/IMG_2053.jpg" width="149" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxX3zmXSuF_eIICiwol1BOpl_yKsP3VP8Y8nHdqMAiuIRZW-OeSrufEDFzMH0n1oJOniFb7Pz8k_tldX2zeRah4Ip6kfc_-OviNeXMVSZHMWCgpX5W92OjLmxwc_gPrV_YCtaM7EebrJw/s1600/IMG_2061.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxX3zmXSuF_eIICiwol1BOpl_yKsP3VP8Y8nHdqMAiuIRZW-OeSrufEDFzMH0n1oJOniFb7Pz8k_tldX2zeRah4Ip6kfc_-OviNeXMVSZHMWCgpX5W92OjLmxwc_gPrV_YCtaM7EebrJw/s200/IMG_2061.jpg" width="149" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
1) Take some newspaper and scrunch it up into a ball. Wrap the ball in another layer and scrunch. Repeat this until you have a head. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2) Do the same to make a body - just use more paper.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3) Use masking tape or cellotape to stick the head to the body. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKjearoBm5_zJ2_GhHIaHm9b-byk_FqAnSZ6toM_Oo286AfOSUx3baIYk5sFmnNYYAhFQwwBM4DYLYJR1F8pFwGxnAeFGD9uZ0fJ5sZPsUKoNl-yS8gci_HVdR3aWA3ZNKYqfOP4-Atc0/s1600/IMG_2062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKjearoBm5_zJ2_GhHIaHm9b-byk_FqAnSZ6toM_Oo286AfOSUx3baIYk5sFmnNYYAhFQwwBM4DYLYJR1F8pFwGxnAeFGD9uZ0fJ5sZPsUKoNl-yS8gci_HVdR3aWA3ZNKYqfOP4-Atc0/s200/IMG_2062.jpg" width="149" /></a><div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
4) Fold a piece of newspaper lengthways about again and again so that you have a long tube.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQjIUJMhu-fsY0qdOH1y_GDlDS9Wy1zIYkg34-77OEtXNAbO4_GN0bJn1DbUs5xtnWBxGaqCenVTeBW5DFKbCHvJWk4yErlJxxbKxgWPojtMFAKoH0x671smhbCmiB9mIVz9qDQnGzkCo/s1600/IMG_2067.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQjIUJMhu-fsY0qdOH1y_GDlDS9Wy1zIYkg34-77OEtXNAbO4_GN0bJn1DbUs5xtnWBxGaqCenVTeBW5DFKbCHvJWk4yErlJxxbKxgWPojtMFAKoH0x671smhbCmiB9mIVz9qDQnGzkCo/s200/IMG_2067.jpg" width="149" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
5) Wrap the tube around the back of the body at the top and stick in place so that the arms stick out.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwQ4ljE61tkA0HV-VFXquHdLaCPoNP54Q92ditKfU_YXYM06aJEr9CNPSwpZIa9A2-wA5A73PdXkWpLGueIbJJa6mKCm6YY9yVLNyTx2xcWEQwXUNRKVIoZnlfdFD55hkJu8_Geeqyl_c/s1600/IMG_2075.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwQ4ljE61tkA0HV-VFXquHdLaCPoNP54Q92ditKfU_YXYM06aJEr9CNPSwpZIa9A2-wA5A73PdXkWpLGueIbJJa6mKCm6YY9yVLNyTx2xcWEQwXUNRKVIoZnlfdFD55hkJu8_Geeqyl_c/s200/IMG_2075.jpg" width="149" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />6) Use glue and cover your creature with leaves, adding stones or dried berries for the eyes and twigs for the mouth. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>* It is much easier to use a glue gun to stick the leaves so children will need adult help. </b></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
<b>* Harvey and I decided to try to give our leaf creatures happier faces next time! They look a little glum.</b></div>

<b>Activity: </b>Make a beautiful garden just like the one that belonged to the Selfish Giant.<br />
<br />
<b>Resources: </b>watercolour paint, watercolour paper (not essential), acrylic or poster paint, thick paintbrush, thin paintbrush, pencil, cotton buds, scissors, glue.<br />
<br />
<b>What you do:</b><br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE7nTDDBFKiTp48FTs9MB7yeD-LMGDPSXgICCYZm5NQpXxdWYMf7l2V8YaNMOIbmbm7Y3TpWmWK1vwZ8mub-KlnVlkM-577jWFgXAY3zN1UyJTeypL_fone-CYCc5P990iod5ffzAUgHQ/s1600/IMG_1928.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><br />
<b>1)</b> Use watercolours with a wide brush. Use blues, pinks, yellows and greens in horizontal washes to create a beautiful background.<br />

<b>3)</b> In pencil, draw some tree shapes on separate paper. Use my tree board on pinterest for inspiration<br />
<br />
<a href="http://pinterest.com/hollyharveyeve/trees/">http://pinterest.com/hollyharveyeve/trees/</a><br />
<br />
Then paint your trees in different shades of green watercolour wash.<br />

<b><br /></b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b>4)</b> When dry, add branches with acrylic or poster paint and a thin brush. You may want to add flowers to your trees using acrylic and a cotton bud, like you did for the foreground. <br />

<br />
An easy peasy way to draw an exceptionally tall giant!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Age:</b> Upper primary<br />
<br />
<b>Resources:</b> paper, pencil, eraser, watercolour paint, ruler<br />
<br />
<b>What you do:</b><br />
<br />
<b>STEPS 1- 4 I have drawn in pen so you can see! You do it all in light pencil because you are going to need to rub some lines out before you paint. </b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<b>1)</b> Using a pencil on A4 white paper draw a point in the middle of the top and one at the middle of the bottom. Join these lines using a ruler. Then draw a line from the top middle to each bottom edge.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNk8KVyaPSYGfPRhEG7R3_H-TOYfI3HACOrlE4wfFXbwfgAe2Y8skSGdaB2hapoXEJMeNTcncJLIzAnvhCgDtJdzD43GFMvydbMAeVQ676vE3yvg02FfdeJwo63EKdX2naEccqh3n-Z0w/s1600/IMG_1845.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNk8KVyaPSYGfPRhEG7R3_H-TOYfI3HACOrlE4wfFXbwfgAe2Y8skSGdaB2hapoXEJMeNTcncJLIzAnvhCgDtJdzD43GFMvydbMAeVQ676vE3yvg02FfdeJwo63EKdX2naEccqh3n-Z0w/s320/IMG_1845.jpg" width="229" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>2) </b>Next, draw a line about 2 cm from the top and one about 5 cm from the top. These are for the head and the waist lines. Then draw a head, a waist and arms.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgru93h4Xs2LeJsqMXbJvOpe7MExcVKVAK_k1mx0Js_VFcRi5RjcDBq07oUfpNz_NMtlZ6iWvDSJ16e7rHqVLqOfJLRyMdUlA3PpI0aS2o9B35wJor5A2ENIluwQvNGHHY5P2qrm6NRf6c/s1600/IMG_1846.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgru93h4Xs2LeJsqMXbJvOpe7MExcVKVAK_k1mx0Js_VFcRi5RjcDBq07oUfpNz_NMtlZ6iWvDSJ16e7rHqVLqOfJLRyMdUlA3PpI0aS2o9B35wJor5A2ENIluwQvNGHHY5P2qrm6NRf6c/s320/IMG_1846.jpg" width="230" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>3)</b> Now add curved trouser bottoms and curved shoes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvR9u3jLmFEUEvOxL7Em-DgO5eoSfIYjDa6AaB7hDohoMqyV1szkXklWdBIxM-XRpeUo4cxuyEg4KMCuK4fObx3JZA7_eHb64fP4C4SEKY8q0lylBX9Gzj_uIcoSpwp-aUuBu83J0pxu0/s1600/IMG_1847.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvR9u3jLmFEUEvOxL7Em-DgO5eoSfIYjDa6AaB7hDohoMqyV1szkXklWdBIxM-XRpeUo4cxuyEg4KMCuK4fObx3JZA7_eHb64fP4C4SEKY8q0lylBX9Gzj_uIcoSpwp-aUuBu83J0pxu0/s320/IMG_1847.jpg" width="227" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>4) </b>Draw the sides of the boots and the soles then add the eyelets and laces. Add the sleeves of the shirt, braces and curves lines for the waist. Draw the giants face. Erase all the lines you don't need now.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqgYoFLDqccG6qFFmK1y2SZwicL3prh_gXnXuXqkUz2eNju0Ydb8-mWwTylrB35ROIIl3CBot62e4vAa3oecwNJ0pz_qlcUr6qrM2hmEJs_RV1euskBhNSzk3D_rLxRXDYjGwUgJX9b5A/s1600/IMG_1851.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqgYoFLDqccG6qFFmK1y2SZwicL3prh_gXnXuXqkUz2eNju0Ydb8-mWwTylrB35ROIIl3CBot62e4vAa3oecwNJ0pz_qlcUr6qrM2hmEJs_RV1euskBhNSzk3D_rLxRXDYjGwUgJX9b5A/s320/IMG_1851.jpg" width="222" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<b>5)</b> Paint with watercolours. Add a background.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj91T4vHsuwW7GMa9-hBsa_7zuviHvvDax_7wKCqiWMwrcfmjGuw2nrsvjjU5Lt4hufYlK0bcXHWCajOIA4kQhnFyD_0p0XlB_ncIHVui0s-CFFEKIAjA9SIO51yCGyxMCA1rv0fI7vYQ8/s1600/IMG_1849.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj91T4vHsuwW7GMa9-hBsa_7zuviHvvDax_7wKCqiWMwrcfmjGuw2nrsvjjU5Lt4hufYlK0bcXHWCajOIA4kQhnFyD_0p0XlB_ncIHVui0s-CFFEKIAjA9SIO51yCGyxMCA1rv0fI7vYQ8/s320/IMG_1849.jpg" width="226" /></a></div>

<br />
3) Decorate them with bits and bobs from the dollar shop or whatever you have at home. I used googly eyes and foam hands and feet.<br />
<br />
4) Make sure you place everything on a jaunty angle to make the alien come alive, then stick everything down.<br />

<b>Try some paper weaving and colouring to make an Elmer picture!</b></div>
<br />
<b>Activity: </b>Paper weaving & colouring<br />
<br />
<b>Age:</b> Yr 1 - Yr 6 (See tip at the bottom for how to adapt to use with older children)<br />
<br />
<b>Resources: </b>Black paper, Strips of coloured paper, glue scissors<br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b>What to do:</b><br />
<br />
<b>1) </b>Measure and draw a 2 cm border inside an A4 sheet of thick paper or card.<br />
<br />
<b>2) </b>Measure 2cm lines across the inside of the border and cut slits following each one with a craft knife and ruler or fold the paper lengthways and use scissors to cut them from the middle, stopping at the border.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB5Adxec0oqdSSecQuWnpcyEMn9eUbwh9kg-0dpkS_yuO07JqEicwcsudZ_NF5oTTolnqEcunZmJdCJI-pViTzh7u5w0fwOhLqXkWECGDmTqVS08vRRyqRg-vn2IBsCPNkydNTtcnx744/s1600/IMG_1747.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><br />

<b><br /></b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<b>3)</b> Cut 2 cm strips of coloured paper lengthways.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>6)</b> Now you can either draw Elmer over the top of your weaving or draw and colour him in and then cut him out and glue him on top of your paper weaving background. (I will add an Elmer shape for you to use at the bottom of the post) Add a googly eye if you have one!</div>

<br />
<b>TIP:</b> Older children love to do paper weaving. Here is an example of year 5/6 work. This was achieved by folding the paper lengthways, after drawing the border, then drawing curvy lines, instead of straight ones, and cutting up to the border while still folded, then open out. The strips used to weave are different widths.<br />

<br />
<b>3)</b> Either clean the shape each time a new colour is used <b>or</b> have 3 or 4 potato printers and use one for each colour.<br />

<b>What to do:</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU926MukD2_Tzq7tYxNw3t6PRHCpJUV7Ja9Dosq3j4yWZAR75bzJWYpoRQnMb5xf0Ds3W5CO_KWFBG_MNzpnkgvFwr2-7SeGB2ebuQCbhGGamL2TyOrus6M29QqX0f0aVtbclRSmBoIPg/s1600/colorwheel.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU926MukD2_Tzq7tYxNw3t6PRHCpJUV7Ja9Dosq3j4yWZAR75bzJWYpoRQnMb5xf0Ds3W5CO_KWFBG_MNzpnkgvFwr2-7SeGB2ebuQCbhGGamL2TyOrus6M29QqX0f0aVtbclRSmBoIPg/s200/colorwheel.gif" width="189" /></a></div>
<b>1.</b> Choose 3 colours that sit near to one another on the colour wheel e.g yellow, orange & red.<br />
<br />
<b>2</b>. Use a ruler and pencil to divide the paper into walls and floor of the room.<br />
<br />
<b>3. </b>Paint the walls and floor in the three chosen colours, using two colours for the main wall, the lighter at the bottom. Blend the colours<br />
with horizontal strokes.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS5JbuwshCNyGoRCgvKG4qM_3Pg__8BgwnAA0VVwaGMhiX9qbw4oJ5cl9mJfPCrfjdsUyhq_0xZaIlYOLW9CJpUtzad5WmdM-ozecObNJbhQFLz4OToILKMGnfUIaua2WSpNWHx429yyc/s1600/P1000034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS5JbuwshCNyGoRCgvKG4qM_3Pg__8BgwnAA0VVwaGMhiX9qbw4oJ5cl9mJfPCrfjdsUyhq_0xZaIlYOLW9CJpUtzad5WmdM-ozecObNJbhQFLz4OToILKMGnfUIaua2WSpNWHx429yyc/s200/P1000034.JPG" width="200" /></a><b>4.</b> Now for the characters. On a separate piece of paper draw your character in the style of David Mckee. You can achieve this by starting with a chunky body, a head almost the same size as the body and short chunky legs. Choose a pattern for the sweater.<br />
<br />
<b>5.</b> Once you are happy with your character, draw around him/her using black pen, then rub out the pencil marks. Colour your character using coloured pencils. Finally cut out and place on top of your background.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyZIsHuPpFq42XkpHH9ZxNw5yJDLzM6c6sawRzOQlzONvjQ4Z5tRO-YLP9dc82sveFEYQf90IVPrrrbrVCAgR1bARrb5SJgh7-Q2VCaOadruU6wFyJZnlYO2ktDNYBPYt2BCJx85LrJO8/s1600/P1000041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyZIsHuPpFq42XkpHH9ZxNw5yJDLzM6c6sawRzOQlzONvjQ4Z5tRO-YLP9dc82sveFEYQf90IVPrrrbrVCAgR1bARrb5SJgh7-Q2VCaOadruU6wFyJZnlYO2ktDNYBPYt2BCJx85LrJO8/s640/P1000041.JPG" width="640" /></a><b>6.</b> Use this technique to make more characters, furniture and objects.<br />
<br />
<b>7. </b>Finally, when you are happy with your layout, glue each piece down.<br />
<br />
<b>You could continue this process to make a whole book. Add text if you want to! Why not include a mum or a dad, a monster and YOU!</b><br />
<br />
<b>TIP: </b>To save time, photocopy your characters multiple times and colour it in afterwards if you want to add them to more pages.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17909011275036636325noreply@blogger.com0
